Author’s Note: This is tiny ficlet for torigates’ birthday – happy birthday, Tori! Many thanks to badboy_fangirl for the beta. Please note that this probably falls under the “gimme credit for trying” category ;)

Anthropologically speaking... she wouldn’t go there. She didn’t have enough time today to even start introducing the subject. Anthropologically speaking, it was a semester long class at least, and they only had a couple of hours ahead of them to tackle the issue.

From a biological point of view, it was an absurdity. Cells lived, died, and renewed themselves following a pre-programmed and uninterrupted cycle. They weren’t suddenly older from one day to another just because a date had been reached.

Nutritionally, it was even worse than an absurdity; it was an aberration. Cakes and pies, cream and alcoholic beverages, with little to no nutritional value, maybe even with negative effects. That being said, she had to admit that pleasant food – which shouldn’t be confused with good, healthy food – was a nice feeling, and she might even get the concept of comfort food.

Symbolism was something she could understand, and regarding this particular matter, symbolism was a pregnant aspect. Even though symbolism had so much more importance at some turning points in life, and as far as she knew, Booth wasn’t currently at one of them. But then, it was so intimately tied to an anthropological perspective, she would have to refer to her first point.

The social aspect was rather tricky. Those were supposedly occasions to gather and celebrate with family and close ones, yet Booth had told no one today. It was not like he was the shy, withdrawn kind, so it left her a bit perplexed.

But since she was already caught in the weirdness of a birthday celebration, she might as well get to the bottom of it. So, she planted the huge candle she’d bought earlier in the middle of the blueberry pie she’d just ordered for Booth, then instructed him a bit awkwardly, “Make a wish!”

With a crooked smiled, he blew out the candle.

Oh, this was awesome! You so nailed Brennan's character and I liked how the fic seemed to circle around that one moment, a simple bithday wish! Loved it and I really hope you write more Bones stories, this was excellent!

I tried to have a scientific approach of the issue *g*

Thanks a lot for taking the time to comment :-)

This is just excellent! I didn't even know you watched Bones, but you totally nailed Brennan's character and her sentiments towards Booth, and just THANK YOU. THANK YOU. <3

Hehe, yep, I watch Bones ;-) Actually I've only seen the first three seasons, maybe a bit of the fourth. I need to catch up. I don't 'fangirl' the show enough to really write stories but I had a - tiny - plot bunny and was happy to manage to write something for you, and something different from PB.

I'm so glad you liked it *hugs*

Awwwww! What a fantastic characterisation of Brennan! Exactly right and though it was kind of funny it was also very cute.

Yes, I do watch something other than PB!! :)

Thanks so much, Foxy. It's good to hear the characterization works - at some point, I wondered if 'my' Bones wasn't a little bit Spock-like *g*

Yes, I do watch something other than PB!! :)
... And unlike me, you do have a Bones (or is it Buffy? or Angel?) icon :-p

Which makes me think... Am I nosy if I ask you what other tv shows you watch? I've realized I don't have the slighest idea.

I think in the show Brennan is a fine line between caricature and real. Luckily she has Booth and Angela to take care of the humanity aspect of her character...and no, I didn't feel she was Spock-like. She just has a very analytical mind, don't you think? Which is what you presented here!

The icon is from the Angel episode Eternity when the dreaded Angelus put in a very scary appearance!! If you want it help yourself, sweetheart. And here's another if you'd like it. Feral chained Angel!! Bit like Cuffed!Michael!! :)

I don't watch many shows, mostly because I work shifts and if I were to record everything that piques my interest I'd spend half the night watching it all!! So PB, of course, and Bones and I am trying to get to watch True Blood on dvds which katipl so kindly sent me but still trying to find time for that! Otherwise I mostly like documentaries.

So what other shows do you watch, apart from PB and Bones? :)

Indeed. And she's blunt but not really offensive - not from from the viewer/reader's POV anyway - because there is a certain candor in her remarks, which probably makes her fun to write.

*looks around caustiously and whispers* I didn't really like Buffy, and I've never seen Angel. I know the shows of course but I'm afraid they weren't my cup of tea :-p Thanks for the offer though *hugs*

I used to watch quite a bit of tv shows but for a couple of years, I haven't really 'clicked' with anything and I'm out of the loop. Not to mention that I often start to watch something and let go after one season or even sometimes after a few episodes. I watched Boston Legal but it ended last December. I've seen the pilot of True Blood but still have to catch up with the rest of the episodes. So right now, other than PB... *scratches head*

I don't have the time anymore to follow as many as I used to, but I'd like to find a couple of shows I really enjoy because I miss being a fangirl. And I need to fangirl to write fics :-p

Honesty without intent to offend, right? And yes, incredible fun to write! :)

*leans in the better to hear your whisper* *lowers own voice* That's okay, sweetheart. They weren't everyone's kind of show...though I do think Angel was better because it addressed more adult themes!

I haven't really 'clicked' with anything and I'm out of the loop.

My problem too. PB is the only show I'm really into right now. I watched Heroes for a couple of seasons but it's got way too complicated now and watching it had become really hard work...so I don't watch it any more. :(

Time is definitely the issue for me too. Fangirling is so much fun and it really does help when writing fics.

Maybe WM and DP will get signed up for another awesome show? That will definitely get me interested in something new. :)
