The West Wing - Executive Power

Prompt by niennanou: POTUS, Toby, kidney (food)

The Residence’s kitchen is small, familial and well-equipped. But Toby hasn’t still understood why they have to that here instead of enjoying the sparkling and huge kitchens of the White House. There’s a reason, there’s always a reason; the President carefully formulates his answers, as when he tries to avoid broaching on a given subject.

He hands him out a pack of kidneys and asks that he washes them. “With a bit of vinegar in the water, Toby.”

“I know how it’s done, Sir.”

Toby hasn’t still understood why they have to cook that here instead of merely...

“Because my wife doesn’t want me to go to the kitchens,” the President admits. His embarrassment is not so well hidden by a hint of exasperation.

“A misunderstanding with the Chef the last time. Nothing serious.”

“Just serious enough so the First Lady doesn’t want you to...”

“Wash the kidneys, Ziegler.”

“This is another subject Id’ like to bring up, Sir. I wash the kidneys and you make the sauce?”

“Separation of powers, Toby. Separations of powers. My hands are bound here.”

Cute remark at the end, I like that part.

However, there are no kitchens in the west wing except for the White House Mess in the basement (the door is across from the door to the Situation Room, something I'm surprised they never showed in the program). The "massive kitchens" are in the Residence -- the family kitchen, of course, is in the northwestern corner of the second floor.

Thanks a lot.

Damn, busted! didn't do my homework before writing this. Thanks a lot for the tip. I'll tweak the drabble and keep the info in mind for future reference :-)
