Prison Break - Draw, aim, breathe, fire (Seven Seconds of Shooting)
Title: Draw, aim, breathe, fire (Seven Seconds of Shooting)
Author: clair_de_lune
Fandom: Prison Break
Characters: Sara, Michael, Christina Rose (Michael/Sara)
Categories: Gen
Rating: PG
Word Count: ~230
Summary: Later, she will feel as though it all happened in half a second. (Season 4)
Author’s Note: Written for the Seventh Anniversary challenge at uncuffmybrother.

Thanks to tuesdaeschild for the read-through.

Later, she will feel as though it all happened in half a second.

It doesn’t. It lasts a few seconds.

One. Draw. She’s swift. She pulls the gun out of the waistband of her jeans in one fluid, quick motion. It seems as if she’s done this her whole life.

Two. Aim. Her hand isn’t shaking. Her hand should be shaking, shouldn’t it, when she’s aiming at her almost-mother-in-law, who herself is aiming at her son. But her hand isn’t shaking, not even a quiver.

Three, four, five. Breathe and listen to the hateful logorrhea falling from Christina Rose Scofield’s lips. Because, you see, maybe this is what Christina Rose Scofield does for a living – shooting people – but that’s not what Sara Tancredi does. Even though, lately, it has looked like it was. So Sara wants to make sure she doesn’t have another option than shooting her almost-mother-in-law in the back.

Six. Fire. Really, nothing much to say, except mentioning the jerk in her arm at the concussive kick, and the fact that it’s relief that washes over her, not horror or dread. Horror or dread will come later. Maybe. For now, Christina’s dead, and Michael’s alive, and Sara’s relieved.

Seven. Meet Michael’s eyes. He’s tearing up; she’s not.

One of the longest seven seconds of her life, and yet, later, she will feel as though it all happened in less than no time.

END

I'm sure Michael wasn't tearing up because hateful clone Christina died. Oh no. It was because Sara had been forced to shoot someone again to save the life of someone worthy, even if Michael doesn't consider himself to be. Worthy, I mean.

I love scenes that examine a character's thoughts even if they're happening quickly!

So you get an Origami Crane banner as a prize for the number 7! Any luck with making them yet?!!! *g*

*hugs*

You know, a clone would be hardly more insane an explanation for Christina's behavior than what they gave us in canon...

I think you're right. Maybe there's something for his mother deep down, but first and foremost, this is about Sara. (And by the way, despite what Sara thinks, this is something she does: she shot Kim to save Lincoln; she shot Christina to save Michael. And now that I'm thinking about it, I have to have Lincoln mentioning Kim's death in Story of Faith.)

Any luck with making them yet?!!! *g*

They've shipped the software I'm waiting only today :( Which means I won't have it for the weekend. Anyway, the virtual cranes may have to wait a bit longer than I would like, but I'll get there *stomp feet*

*hugs back*

Amen to that.

And by the way, despite what Sara thinks, this is something she does: she shot Kim to save Lincoln; she shot Christina to save Michael.

You're right and she is a serial saviour. We can only be grateful for that. :)4

I like that plan.

As I see it there's no problem with awarding the virtual cranes after the anniversary week ends. :)

I have the memory of a gold fish. The other day, I knew exactly why and how I wanted to use in Story of Faith the fact that she shot Christina. I didn't write it in my notes file and now, I can't remember. Damn bunnies. I still have a vague idea, but a vague idea is... a vague idea. Arghh.

You know, I could make the cranes with the softwares I already have, but I'm like the kids: I'm going to have a shiny new toy, I wanna play with it!!!

Can't argue with that! It is very irritating when you've done the hard work and come up with the idea...it certainly makes sense to jot them down. Let's hope the bunnies will hop by again. :)

I can totally understand why you would want to play with the shiny new toy!!! LOL

Just terse enough to keep it with the feeling of the scene but long enough to give us soem real insight into Sara's thoughts.

I really like these lines: Because, you see, maybe this is what Christina Rose Scofield does for a living – shooting people – but that’s not what Sara Tancredi does. Event though, lately, it has looked like it was. So Sara wants to make sure she doesn’t have another option than shooting her almost-mother-in-law in the back.

Very true to Sara :) Nice work :)

Sara can be pretty ruthless when she needs to - ask Kellerman, Kim or the inmate she kicked in the knee during the riots in S1 - but it's always a last resort for her. Even more so in this case, I guess, although Christina Rose wasn't the... nicest mother.

So happy you liked it :) Thank you!
